This one is for all of my teachers out there. Or anyone who has an interest in DIY, old journal vibes, I guess.

This was a random little project that took me only a couple of hours to do. Highly recommend for any project that you are needing to old-ise paper or display information.

What did I use?

You will need:
  • White, plain paper
  • Coffee grounds (I used the discards from a coffee machine)
  • Pencil
  • Brown thread
  • Sewing needle

Okay, now what?

My first step was to put something under my workspace. You may not worry, but my white kitchen bench would hate on me.

Now, this is pretty close to rocket science, so prepare yourself. It's the trickiest thing you'll ever do. The hardest part of your entire career. Grab the coffee grounds, chuck it onto the paper. Crush it. And, smear it. Ta-da!

I'm joking, it's not hard at all. But, I did figure out a certain little trick. If you press the grounds in a circular motion, you will get a darker and smoother effect.

Don't forget to pay extra attention to the edges to create more of a realistic look. And, yes. Be prepared - it will get messy! Enjoy it!

Your next step is to write your content. Whatever you want your journal to be about - mine was a convict diary so of course had content that would be expected of an English child in 1787.

Make it work for your own project. There's no right and no wrong x

After this you can begin decorating the front of your journal. I just looked at fonts on Word and started drawing.

If you hang around for long enough, you'll realise that I am very picky with what I make. So I couldn't just leave it as it is.

I grabbed a sewing needle and some brown thread and stitched around the edge of the front cover. I also added some ripped brown paper to add some texture and a "scrappy" look.

And, done! That's my adorable lil journal for you all. I can't wait to see what yours look like, so feel free to comment down below of tag me on Instagram/Pinterest if you share it.

With coffee-stained hands,
